چکیده

Solitary fibrous tumour (SFT) is a mesenchymal tumour, which is most often encounterd in the pleura. Although the tumour was initially regarded as being derived only from submesothelial fibroblasts and therefore restricted to mesothelial-lined surfaces, recent reports have documented the existence of these lesions at sites unrelated to the serosal surface, including the head and neck. Here, we report a rare case of SFT arising in the parapharyngeal space, which showed interesting features on MRI, CT, and F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) findings. A 38-year-old man presented with a persistent bulging mass at the left oropharyngeal wall. On the CT images, the mass was located in the anterior compartment of the left parapharyngeal space, which showed the heterogenous enhancement on contrast-enhanced CT findings. On MRI, the tumour showed nodule-in-nodule appearance. The inner nodule showed high signal intensities both on T1and T2-weighted MR images. The entire tumour showed hetrogenous enhancement on Gadlinium-enhanced T1-weighted images except for a part of inner nodule. FDG-PET showed the heterogenous radiotracer uptake of FDG in the inner nodule of

Solitary Fibrous Tumor of Nasal Cavity:A Case Report

Introduction: Solitary fibrous tumours (SFTs) of the nose and paranasal sinuses are extremely rare. These were originally described as neoplasms of the pleura originating from spindle cells. It is further sub-classified as a benign type of mesothelial tumour. Its occurrence in many extra pleural sites have been reported earlier, mainly in the liver, parapharyngeal space, sublingual glands, tongu...

Late diagnosis of a solitary fibrous tumour of the parapharyngeal space in a continuous positive airway pressure-treated patient.

Solitary fibrous tumours of the parapharyngeal space are a very rare finding and have been described less than 10 times in the English literature. The Authors discuss a clinical case of a solitary fibrous tumour in the parapharyngeal space in a 77-year-old male, who had begun treatment for a newly discovered obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome with a continuous positive airway pressure - device o...

Solitary fibrous tumour of the laterocervical spaces.

Solitary fibrous tumours are rare mesenchymal neoplasms usually arising in the pleura. Extra-pleural locations are uncommon although some cases of head and neck involvement have been reported in the recent literature. In such cases, nose, paranasal cavities and parapharyngeal spaces are the most frequently affected sites. The Authors present a case of a solitary fibrous tumour involving the lat...

Solitary fibrous tumor of the post-styloid parapharyngeal space

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a well-known tumor composed of spindle cells found most commonly in the pleura. Recently, accounts of their rare occurrence at other sites, including the head and neck area, have been reported. The parapharyngeal space is a rare location even for head and neck SFTs, and thus, could be confused with a variety of other tumors that can originate in this area. Here, ...

Solitary fibrous tumor of the parapharyngeal space.

Solitary fibrous tumors are rare tumors originating from the mesenchymal tissue. In most cases they arise from the subpleural tissue but have also been described in other locations in the body. Most such tumors in the head and neck region occur in the orbit. Although malignant tumors can occur, benign tumors are far more common. The therapy is surgical excision. For a conclusive diagnosis, a ty...
